How to Fit a Harness Correctly on Your Pet

How to Fit a Harness Correctly on Your Pet

  • by Sandra McHendrie

The Rufus & Coco Soft Mesh Harnesses for dogs and cats are made from durable nylon mesh which is both soft and breathable. The reflective straps simply clip on and are adjustable for the perfect fit.

How to fit the Rufus & Coco Soft Mesh Harness:

  1. Undo the clips and slip the ‘head hole’ of the harness over your mate’s head. The logo patch should sit on your pet’s chest if placed correctly.

  2. Lift your pet’s front leg through to ensure that the straps now sit behind the front legs.

  3. Lift the straps up on each side of the chest and fasten the clip.

  4. Adjust the reflective straps to be secure but loose enough to slide a hand under the harness easily.

Fitting a harness comfortably and securely is key to ensuring the efficiency of the harness and avoiding potential hazards.

A harness that is too loose could lead to your pet freeing itself from the harness, while a fit that is too tight will be uncomfortable and could lead to chaffing and abrasions under their front legs.

To confirm that your harness is properly fitted, make sure you can slip two fingers under all the straps of the harness. With all pets, and especially with puppies, check the fit regularly to make sure the harness is not too tight.

Rufus & Coco Soft Mesh Harnesses are available in black, red, blue or pink with our signature rubber logo patch. Our harnesses look like a million dollars but we’ll keep it our little secret that it’s actually great value!
