6 Ways to Keep Your Cat Entertained
- by Admin R&C
As much as we would love to stay at home all day and play with our cats, we often have responsibilities throughout the day that require us to leave them home alone. Keeping your cat entertained during this time can help to ensure they don’t turn your couch into their own personal scratching post or give you the cold shoulder when you walk back in at the end of the day!
Read on for a few tips and tricks to keep them entertained all day long.
1. Add a Furry Friend
Cats are social creatures, and the majority enjoy having a companion. When contemplating bringing a new furry friend into your home, consider adopting two! Along with providing entertainment for each other, having two cats is beneficial to improving their social skills and cognitive development.
Note: Though adopting two cats can be a great option, please be mindful that this is not always the case. Some cats, especially if they have been the only cat in a household for a long time, may not take well to a new cat. It is often much easier to adopt two cats from the same litter when they are younger.
2. Prepare a Treasure Hunt
It is no secret that cats are natural hunters. They love to explore their surroundings whether it be scaling the wall up to the highest point in your home or crawling under your bed. There is no place your cat will not try to explore! So why not use this to your advantage? A fun way to utilise your kitty’s natural urge to explore is to hide treats around the house for them to find. Along with hiding a few of their usual treats why not engage the fur-ocious hunter within and hide a few of our Reel Fish Crunchers? These treats are made from real dried fish making then high in protein and naturally nutritious – it’s the pur-fect guilt-free snack!
Reel Fish Crunchers are made from Australian sourced fish with no added colourings, flavourings or preservatives. Suitable for cats and kittens.
3. Strategically install a Bird Feeder
Placing a bird feeder on or near a window your cat has access to is a great and cost-effective way to provide continuous entertainment for your cat all day! Cats enjoy visual stimulation and having a bird feeder will invite all kinds of birds and other wildlife to a place where your cat can enjoy the view. This will help to stimulate their brains and keep them engaged and healthy.
4. Turn on some Kitty TV
If you live in a place where a large window is not easily accessible, keeping the TV on for your cat is a great option as well. You can stream videos of birds, squirrels, and anything in-between to keep your feline friend stimulated. However, it’s important to note that you must be mindful what you stream, as many sounds can be stressful to cats! Do not keep anything excessively loud on for a prolonged period.
5. Provide food driven puzzles
What’s more fun than a puzzle? A puzzle with food hidden inside of course! Supplying your cat with a toy which stores treats and requires them to figure out how to get the treats out can provide hours of healthy mental stimulation and encourages your cat to use their natural hunter instincts. Our Rock & Roll Treat Dispenser Toy is the perfect option for independent play throughout the day. All you need to do is add a few treats inside before you leave for work. This is the perfect way to help improve your kitty’s problem-solving skills.
6. Scatter some toys
One way to ensure your cat doesn’t get bored is to have a multitude of different options of toys for them to play with and explore throughout the day. Make sure that the toys have a variety of different sounds, sizes, and features for maximum entertainment. Options can be as simple as a tin foil balls or as fun as our multi-sensory Fling & Chase Cat Toy. With its mixture of bells and feathers, this toy is sure to bring on the fun for your kitty!
We love our cats and always want the best for them! It’s important to know how to provide them with the best care. Cats require a lot of stimulation and it is crucial that we provide adequate entertainment throughout the day, so they can continue to be as happy and healthy as possible.
